Mammography is an X-ray procedure for the early detection of breast cancer and other breast diseases. It produces high-resolution images of the breast tissue to identify changes such as lumps or calcifications. Each breast is usually x-rayed in two planes.
Each breast is lightly compressed on a special X-ray table. Compression is necessary to obtain clear images and reduce radiation exposure. Depending on the results, a supplementary ultrasound examination or magnetic resonance imaging may be necessary.
Mammography is best performed in the first half of the menstrual cycle. The breast tissue is less "dense" during this phase, which makes it easier for the doctor to diagnose changes. The examination is also less uncomfortable for you.
Please do not apply any skin lotion or deodorant on the day of the examination. This can lead to errors in the X-ray image (artifacts) which impair the image quality. The radiation exposure of a mammogram is lower than the ambient radiation to which you are exposed over the course of a year.
Our high-resolution mammography device is fully digital and enables precise imaging of breast tissue and the detection of the smallest tumors and fine calcifications. Modern technology shortens the examination time and reduces radiation exposure to a minimum. The short compression time also significantly improves comfort during the examination.
