Conventional prostate screening is carried out by palpating the prostate and determining the PSA value in the laboratory.
If one of these findings is pathological, a sometimes untargeted biopsy is performed, which is often negative and may then have to be repeated several times.
Multiplanar prostate MRI is now a very sensitive and specific examination method that provides high-resolution three-dimensional images of the prostate. The high resolution allows the prostate to be assessed from different levels for a comprehensive analysis of the presence and extent of prostate cancer. In this way, targeted biopsies can be planned precisely. Small, less aggressive tumors can be safely monitored.
The examination is carried out gently using 3 Tesla MRI. Special endorectal coils are no longer necessary today due to the high resolution. The examination is completely radiation-free.
